I just need a routine

“I just need a routine”

There is no routine, magic bullet or quick fix.  The incredible workout that gets you tight, toned and fit in just four easy sessions does not exist and will never exist.  What does get results is a consistent, managed training program.  We are adaptive machines and so any efficient program needs to reflect that adaptability. As our capacity changes so does the demand we can  place on ourselves.  Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is one definition of insanity.

Show me a successful athlete, intellect or artist and you can bet every single one of them has at least one coach or mentor.  We see what you do not and cannot. If we are good at our craft, then we make sure that every single thing you do during the time you spend with us gets you just a little bit farther towards getting you to your goal. Get a coach! Commit to working with someone for three months.  Invest in yourself.  Show up. Learn. Do the work.  Get better.
Don’t no show, cancel, train once a week and expect progress. If you put the time in and you have a coach that cares then you will get better, you will get stronger, you will get leaner.
The magic equation is: consistency + coached effort = progress.  Try that on for size and let me know your thoughts twelve weeks from today.

Good Habits

Primal Truth #2
The secret to feeling and looking greater than ever.

You can train like a machine with the intensity of a demon for years and get strong but unless you are a genetic freak and/or at the height of your natural testosterone production then there is no way to reduce body fat and be healthy unless you pay attention to what you eat. I spent the early part of my lifting life trying to out-train the fork. It just won't happen. If you want to avoid high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, inflammation and just aches and pains it simply starts with what you eat. Remember the you are what you eat campaign? Truer words have never been spoken.

I can feel your objections already. No one wants to hear the word diet. I agree. Just start with good habits and you will feel better than you ever have. It's much easier than you think.

Habit #1
Enjoy cooking and eating at home with fresh, local food.  Just that simple. Go to your nearest farmer's market. Pick a heirloom tomato and buy it. Now go to your local big box grocery store and buy their tomato. Go home. Eat both and then please reach out to me and let me know what differences you noticed. I want to hear about your experience in your words.

When you are ready, I can talk you through the fundamental experience of buying fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, some proteins and making a fantastic, filling dinner that tastes great and does your body good. Look at the two pictures below and compare. It's the first step. Eat real food. Every cell in your body will thank you for it. If you are in Ottawa, come and see me Sunday morning at 945AM for a tour of Lansdowne farmer's market.

"Is it worth an all expenses paid week vacation in Jamaica?"

Is it worth one all-expenses paid vacation in Jamaica?”

Gut-check time.  At some point in life you will have a goal, a desire..something you want to attain or accomplish.  Once you know where you want to go, the next question is much harder to discover your answer to.  “What are you willing to do to get there?”

That’s commitment.  A mentor of mine suggested that when evaluating whether to take on a client I should ask them if their goal is worth more to them than a one week holiday on a sunny and sandy isle.  If you can look someone else in the eye and say “YES” we have bingo and a great start.  What’s the goal of Primal Health?  It is this simple..you have reached a point where you are unhappy with SOMETHING about your current state of health and fitness.

“ I am embarrassed when my t-shirt rides up and people can see my belly.”.

“Playing with my kids is really hard!”

“ I am tired and achy all the time and it’s a gladiator round robin to make it to the weekend.”

“ I got invited to go on a hike and had to turn it down because I wasn’t sure I could make it.”

“ I can’t concentrate on anything more than a tweet or a TV show.”

“ My doctor wants me on three different meds for the rest of my life.

“ I want to get in shape so that I can join a gym.”

If any of these even remotely sound like something you have said at one time then it is fair to say that you want to be in a different place from where you are. As a Primal Health coach, I am here and I want to help.

Primal Health is about re-connecting to a world that is fading from view. Shaking the hand of the person that grew your spinach and arugula is Primal. Easily sprinting to catch a hat that has blown away in the wind is Primal.  Feeling the soil under your feet and smiling at the sun is Primal.  Waking up without needing to hit  snooze three times or use a blaring alarm is Primal. Feeling and looking the best you ever have been is Primal.

Welcome! Come on in and take a look around.  I am not asking you to go on a fad diet or deprive or isolate yourself.  Eat real food.  Play with your friends.  Be outside. Talk instead of texting. Lift heavy things properly and run like you had to every once in a while.
I am  right here with a big smile on my face, waiting to help you with the next steps.

Those steps start with habits…habits that will have you living the happiest, healthiest and longest life you could have.
